PumicePlus is an engineered soil developed in coordination with a green roof expert with installations across North America and around the world. PumicePlus is composed of two parts, an inert material that ensures structural integrity, and carefully selected growing inputs which provide the foundation for healthy root growth. It aids in the establishment and long-term health of plants when used in green roofs, green walls, containers, landscaped spaces, or specialized soil projects.
PumicePlus combines a granular mix of premium ingredients including Suståne Aerobically Composted Turkey Litter, Coconut Coir, Feathermeal, (UK/EU: Non-GMO Corn Gluten Meal), Langbeinite, Worm Castings, Humates, Seaweed, and Mycorrhizal fungi. Each ingredient has been micronized and combined into every individual granule to create a supercharged grow media that is rich in biostimulants and microbiology essential to healthy plant growth.
Reduces soil compaction and loosens heavy soils, increasing aeration and drainage. This allows oxygen to enter the root system and carbon dioxide respirated by the roots to exit. The exchange of gases in the root zone is critical to having healthy and vibrant plants.
Contains millions of micropores that allow it to store water, nutrients, and microbiology and releases them slowly back into the soil. This creates a water and nutrient bank that will prevent runoff and save valuable resources for when they are needed most.
Supplies humic acid: Humates increase nutrient uptake, drought tolerance, promote beneficial microbial activity, and buffer soils.
Contains an optimal balance of primary, secondary, and micro-nutrients needed for optimal plant growth.
PumicePlus is pH Neutral and improves buffering against changes in soil pH.
Increases the soil’s cation exchange capacity and improves soil structure, porosity, and stability leading to greater root development.
Safe for plants, people, and the environment. As a naturally occurring, and easily accessible material, pumice has a 1300% smaller carbon footprint than other mined soil media. No water, no heating, and no chemicals.
Why Pumice Stone?
Pumice (right) is the cornerstone component of PumicePlus and provides many advantages:
It is highly porous and holds both water and air— critical to well-conditioned, aerated soils.
Pumice has a naturally lightweight structure which provides an excellent platform for microbial colonization. This creates an ideal balance between drainability, moisture retention and gas exchange in the root zone.
Pumice has a rough surface texture which provides the benefit of creating stable installations that might otherwise be prone to compacting, contracting, shifting or swelling - keeping landscapes true to form.

Suståne 5-2-4+Fe is the original Suståne formula first created in 1988. As this was the first Suståne product available on the market, it soon became the standard organic evaluated by numerous universities. Michigan State University, Cornell, University of Rhode Island were three of the first research facilities to discover that Suståne 5-2-4+Fe was highly suppressive of common diseases affecting cool season grasses including root Pythium, Necrotic Ring Spot, Red Thread and to a lesser extent various patch diseases. More organic fertilizer studies have been run utilizing Suståne 5-2-4+Fe as the standard against which all other “organics” are compared.
Suståne 5-2-4+Fe is the all-purpose turf food and is available in either Medium Grade (lawn and fairway applications) or Fine Grade for putting greens. Suitable for use on all turfgrass types providing quick green up followed by long lasting slow release organic nitrogen. Use where even growth and color is needed for six to eight weeks.

Professional landscapers have increasingly turned to Suståne 4-6-4 for use on high maintenance turf and landscaped environments. While synthetic fertilizers supply plant growth nutrients, they do not supply the organic matter required to maintain quality growth. Using fully composted natural fertilizers increases the levels of beneficial microbial activity, which in turn convert nutrients into plant available forms.
SDS | Label | OMRI Certificate | Specification Sheet |
Suståne 4-6-4 Compost Tea Bags are prepackaged permeable fertilizer packs that are left to steep in containers with water to make a Compost Tea brew for topical application.
Suståne 4-6-4 Compost Tea bags come in two sizes, single-use 21-gram size for watering cans, or to be used as Root Zone Feeder Packs and reusable organic cotton bag 5 lb compost tea bags, which each make 50-100 gallons.
There are multiple benefits to using compost teas. More than supplementary nutrients, composts teas deliver humic substances that can act as biostimulants and active microorganisms that can contribute to nutrient cycling and the ecology of healthy soil.
Using compost teas may reduce the need to apply pesticides. Many reports indicate that compost teas increase plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, reducing the need for other inputs.
Compost tea is the result of adding high-quality compost that is rich in beneficial micro-organisms to water with the presence of oxygen and allows it to “brew”. When these microbes are provided with water, oxygen, and a food source the start to multiply rapidly, populating the “tea” with billions of beneficial microbes. Suståne 4-6-4 provides all the essential components of effective compost teas and has been proven to support improved plant growth.
Microbiology from aerobic compost provides numerous benefits to plants and soil. Beneficial micro-organisms compete for resources with the disease-causing bacteria (pathogens) resulting in less disease pressure and healthier plants.
The microbes also go to work converting the nutrients from the compost to water-soluble, plant-available form. This process makes the organic nutrients more readily available and easier for plants to take up. Soluble nutrients result in a faster response from the plant. Some composts are very rich in nutrients resulting in a tea that works as a fertilizer as well as a soil enhancer. Other composts have very little nutrients and do not provide enough plant food alone.
Making high-quality compost tea can be difficult as composts tend to vary significantly in quality. Poorly made compost may contain minimal beneficial micro-organisms and could potentially carry harmful pathogens that could multiply when the compost tea is brewed. Low numbers of microbial populations or the presence of harmful pathogens are often the result of “compost” that was made without oxygen present (anaerobic) or did not have the proper ratio of carbon to nitrogen (C:N) to reach a temperature sufficient to kill harmful pathogens.
At the end of the brewing cycle, the water is teeming with beneficial micro-organisms and plant-available nutrients. This water can be sprayed over the plant leaves and roots and used to drench the soil. Plants treated with compost tea will generally look fuller, brighter, and with less disease pressure. Make an enriched compost tea for superior results. Once brewed, it blends well with Suståne’s Hi-N 12-0-1 WDF to make an enriched compost tea with superior characteristics!
Compost Tea is simple to prepare. Add two 21 gram tea bags per gallon (42 grams), or a 5 lb. Compost Tea Bag per 50-100 gallons (190-380 L) of water, aerate and steep for 24 to 48 hours at 60°- 85° F (10° - 25° C).
Aeration during the brewing process increases the level of active microorganisms in the Compost Tea
Apply to plant leaves and roots. Apply the normal amount of water as you would when watering the plant.

Suståne Hi-N WDF is a high analysis, water dispersible, nitrogen fertilizer. It is specially formulated to promote rapid and durable greening and plant growth. Suståne Hi-N WDF efficiently delivers a unique blend of soluble organic nitrogen sources to support plant growth. It can be used on diverse plants produced in a wide variety of growing systems.
Also available as Hi-N CDN 12-0-1, our Canadian Organic Regime (COR) compliant and OMRI Canada listed formulation.
Fertigation provides more precise control of plant-feeding. There are many systems and approaches for growing plants, and each has its benefits. Wherever water is provided through irrigation, additional nutrients can also be delivered. By precisely dosing plants with only the nutrients they need as they grow, there is reduced potential for nutrient loss in the growing system. That can mean better control of plant growth, greater nutrient use efficiency, and less waste.
Commercial nurseries and greenhouses grow plants with diverse nutritional needs. While a typical soil or constructed potting mixes can provide all of the nutrients a plant needs to grow, supplementing those matrices with different concentrations of key nutrients, particularly nitrogen, can improve the rate and quality of plant growth.
Turfgrass managers and landscapers sometimes need quick greening. In the green industries, people who produce and manage turfgrass know that color and thickness are key qualities demanded by many customers. Balanced nutrition also helps keep grass healthy and more tolerant of foot traffic and other environmental stresses.
Use up to 2 lb. of Suståne WDF per 100 gallons of water for finished solutions with up to 300 PPM of N. To do so, prepare a base concentrate by thoroughly mixing 0.5 lb. powder per gallon of water (or 60 g per liter). This base concentrate can then be diluted into 50 to 150 volumes of water to obtain working solutions of various strengths. Working solutions can be applied regularly depending on crop demand and growing conditions.
For in-furrow and side-dress drench applications, apply up to 40 lb. of Suståne Hi-N WDF per acre in no less than 200 gallons (45 kg per hectare in no less than 780 liters of water) of solution. To do so, mix up to 0.2 lb. of powder with each gallon (or 25 g per liter) of water while filling the mixing tank. Ensure powder is fully dissolved before application. Apply within 4 hours of preparation. Rinse applicator tank and pump lines thoroughly with water immediately following application to avoid clogging.
For foliar applications to fruiting crops, apply up to 3 lb. of Suståne Hi-N WDF per acre using 100 gallons of water (3.5 kg per hectare using 1000 liters of water). To do so, prepare a base concentrate by thoroughly mixing 0.3 lb. of Suståne Hi-N WDF per gallon of water (36 g per liter). This base concentrate is then diluted 1:10 with water in the spray tank to prepare the working solution for foliar feeding. Apply 100 gallons per acre (or 1,000 liters per hectare) one to four times per season. Apply the working solution within 4 hours of preparation. Rinse sprayer thoroughly with water immediately following application to avoid clogging.
For turf applications, use 0.9 lb. of Suståne Hi-N WDF per 1,000 ft2 using 2 gallons of water (500 g per 100 square meters using 7.8 liters of water). To do so, mix in 0.45 lb. Suståne Hi-N WDF per gallon of water while filling the applicators reservoir tank. With constant agitation, apply 2 gallons of working solution per 1,000 ft2 (7.5 liters per 100 square meters) of turf to provide 0.1 lb. of N per 1,000 ft2. Apply the working solution within 4 hours of preparation. Rinse sprayer thoroughly with water immediately following application to avoid clogging.
Application rates of Suståne water-dispersible fertilizers should be made based according to a crop’s nutritional needs and tolerance for salt stress. WDF should be diluted in water and mixed well prior to application. For best results, add package contents to fresh water in clean containers with mixing as described below. The preparation of a homogenous solution is critical to successful and consistent fertigation. It is highly recommended that growers prepare a base concentrate of Suståne’s WDF in a bucket of water and then mix the concentrated solution into a larger volume of reservoir water to ensure proper mixing prior to dispensing. Prepare a concentrate of 0.5 lb. of powder per gallon of water in your reservoir. Add the powder slowly while stirring until the required amount has gone into solution. Use a pre-filter screen on the reservoir's injector line. After the concentrate is fully mixed, let the solution sit for 15 minutes before placing the injector hose into the reservoir.
Make sure the intake end is not touching the bottom of the reservoir and allow the injector to pump all but 2% of the concentrate volume to avoid uptake of any contaminating grit that might rapidly clog intake screens. After fertigation, the remaining concentrate may be fully diluted and injected directly as part of the initial flush. Apply fertigation solutions ONLY when temperatures are above 50oF (11oC) and below 85oF (30oC). Commercial users should check the pH and EC of the prepared fertigation solutions to make sure they are within acceptable ranges for their specific crops.
